Winter Traffic!

A little snow fell, these past weeks. My friends in the forrest decided to pay me a visit.

This was following the first big blast of Old Man Winter. The deer feasted on the pines.  Then wandered to

my window.

We were hit again, with more snow. It was quite miserable. The visibility was very low, and the winds were howling.

It’s estimated that 50 inches have fallen.

A doe taking cover under a spruce. She’s laying down to avoid the winds.

You can see her just to the left of the out building.

My Winter Company

I think, I miss my husband the most, in the winter.  It’s not the holidays. It’s the times when we had a heavy snow fall, fierce winds and temporary loss of power.  Not that he did anything about it. I was the one loading the wood stove, getting out the sterno, grabbing blankets.
It was when the creatures came out of the woods, deer came to the windows, the fox would run along the shoveled walk ways. Eddie would say, “Mary get the camera” and I would.  This winter is the same. I still get the camera, and feel he’s still with me.
These past couple, of weeks, have been full of storms. Resulting in visitors. Some come more often than others. It’s endearing to know that some things don’t change.  The Whitetail Deer, the Eastern Coyote are ever present these months.
He/she stood off by the wood’s edge before he came close to the house.

And had no problem being on camera.

And of course the deer.

This is a Buck, you can see his  antlers.

Sometimes the light is just right, the stance is perfect..you have to take the picture.

This was taken a couple of weeks ago. My Ollie never saw deer before (I don’t think) He was fascinated.

When it comes to food though.  Ollie has it all over the coyote and deer. He protects his food source better than then them all.

I don’t know if my Eddie would approve of the cat having so much charge of the kitchen.  But I do know he would welcome all our wild visitors.
I hope you have some beautiful company too!

Backyard charmers.

I thought I’d finish off the week with some cute pictures.
All summer we’ve had a doe wander into the yard and eat
anything in sight.  I haven’t been very attentive with the
gardens so I consider her my giant weed wacker.

I often forget where I am and fly out the back door only to
be faced with my friendly visitor,

 She looks upon me as
an intrusion, someone who has interrupted her lunch.

Her coat has become darker, she’s getting ready for the
winter,

And she’ll wait for her photo, become annoyed and wander
off.

One afternoon she brought her baby,

As much as I love the fall, I hate to see hunting
season arrive.  I’m hoping this little family can
survive, they’re like old friends now.
